Ulricehamn - The estates around the lake

Through her series of novels, The Farms around the Lake, Birgit Sparre has made the Ulricehamn region well known – not only in Sweden, but in our neighbouring countries as well. The fantasy world of the novels is today more attractive than ever. More and more people read the stories and visit the places where Birgit Sparre found her inspiration.

Around the lake are the farms with their traditions, some dating way back, to when the two parishes were part of the border region between Denmark and Sweden and Danish armies were a common sight in the area.

For more than 20 years, the author Birgit Sparre described her home area around the lake Åsunden in Västergötland, and her series of novels, The Farms around the Lake, have spellbound generations of readers. She grew up in the beautiful country house Sjöred.
