Royal seaside. Already in the 1850s the number of bathing guests had considerably increased, and along with that the number of events. Marstrand was already at that time a royal venue and among the royal guests were King Oscar I, Queen Josefina and Princess Eugenie.

Later Carl XV and Prince Gustav came as guests to Marstrand.

Sights - worth seeing...

Marstrand can with its exciting and varying history offer many interesting sights for you to visit during your stay. The picturesque setting and beautiful views also attract many artists to Marstrand. Therefore several galleries and craftsmen open up their studios and workshops to visitors during the summer. Marstrand has in other words a whole palette of interesting visits and sites to offer our guests. Welcome!

  • Houses on Koön - exhibits of old photos and everyday items from a bygone era on Marstrand. Open: 26/6 - 31/8, Tuesdays and Thursdays 14-18. Marstrand's Cultural Heritage Association, Långgatan behind the Town Hall.
  • Marstrand Church - is Marstrand's only remaining building from the Middle Ages and is thought to date back to the 13th century. The church originally belonged to a Franciscan convent. Guided Tours during the summer. Torsby Parish - +46 303 605 44, www.svenskakyrkan.se/torsby
  • A visit to Carlsten Fortress. Open daily 11-18 until 12/8, until 31/8 to 16. Head sets with english guiding available. Rest of the year, open at weekends 11-16.
  • Crafts at Strandverket. Around 20 craftsmen from the West of Sweden exhibit and sell their own works at Strandverket. Open 11-16. Strandverket - +46 303 617 35.
  • Craftsmen at Hantverket. Around 10 craftsmen exhibit and sell high quality crafts and design. Hantverket by Fästningsbacken, Långgatan, +46 70 614 40 74

  • Societetshuset Marstrand - the most beautiful party and conference hall on the West Coast. Societetshuset Marstrand was built in 1886. From being a meeting place for the royals and other members of the upper classes, the building became the restaurant and function room of today. In 1999 an extensive restoration of the worn-down building began, which was finalised in the summer of 2005.
