Guided walks in Kungälv

Exploring unknown places on your own has its charms, but joining a tour with our knowledgeable guides makes the experience much more comprehensive and above all much more fun!

- Why did the cows in Marstrand need a passport to be put out to grass?
- How come bandy is played in Kungälv?
- Why is it said that Kungälv was the cradle of the Atomic Age?
- Why did Selma Lagerlöf spend time in Kungälv?

Yes, you get the answers to all these questions – and a few more – on our different guided tours of Kungälv and Marstrand!

If you have visitors from abroad who would like to see our beautiful region, guided  tours are available in English, German, French and Norwegian.

Welcome!

Here are some different guided tours to choose from:

Town walk in Kungälv

Start by Kungälv church. We walk along ‘Västra gatan’ with beautiful houses from the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. By ‘Västra tullen’ we round Leo Pettersson’s sculpture "Krukan" (The Pot) and walk back along the promenade.

From herring to seaside resort

Start by the ferry berth on Marstrand. Along the paved pier, we then wander through narrow streets with picturesque houses. We get to hear the stories about Marstrand’s period of greatness during the herring era. Walk down towards 'Societetshuset' and finish off with tales from the era of the bathing cure.

In the wake of the Wends

A popular boat trip starting from 'Rådhus Piren' in Kungälv. The boat glides out onto the water, and then sails at a gentle speed along the shores of the Nordre River. Exciting tales about among other things the attack of the Wends on Kongahälla in the 12th century and the herring industry on the islands outside the river mouth are some of the stories we get to hear during the trip. Lastly we travel through the enchanting Albrektsund Canal with Marstrand as our final destination.

Ragnhildsholmen

To the accompaniment of nightingale and scarlet rose-finch, we hear why the Norwegian king built the great Kongahella Castle on Ragnhildsholmen. What plans was Duke Erik of Sweden making, and what happened to the 2-year old princess after the engagement to Duke Erik was called off?

The lighthouse – Boat trip in the waters around Marstrand

When the sun begins to set into the sea and the lighthouses in the Marstrand archipelago twinkle benevolently towards us, we begin an unforgettable excursion. Tales of how people lived in these lonely places and of the importance of the lighthouses are some of those we get to hear during this evening tour.

Bohus fortress

We hold guided tours of Bohus Castle on Sundays from as early as the Easter weekend and all the way to Midsummer. From the 25th June until the 12th August we hold daily tours. Then Sunday tours until October.

Exciting tales about kings, wars and hair-raising events are some of what we get to hear, and perhaps there is still a prisoner in the dark dungeons.

At Advent we traditionally hold guided tours at torch-light.
