Lackarebäck
Lackarebäck is a stream that passes through the ravine north of Gunnebogatan, east of the E6 highway at the turn-off for Lackarebäck. The stream is bordered by a beautiful beech forest, which is unusual in these latitudes. Follow the path along the stream and you might just catch a glimpse of a woodpecker or a tawny owl. The spring at Lackarebäck provided the water that was used to produce spirits as far back as the 18th century.
Route:
Cycle or take the 728 or 753 bus from the centre of Mölndal and alight at Lackarebäckshemmet. You can also take the 771 bus and alight at the Ericsson stop.
Rambo mosse
Rambo mosse is an extremely valuable bog area and gives the feeling of a wilderness despite its proximity to the town. Rambo mosse and its surroundings are the home of many rare birds and plants. The unusual nightjar has been sighted here.
Route:
The easiest way to reach Rambo mosse is from the north via Pixbo/Mölndalsvägen. It can be reached on the 751 bus, where you alight at the Herrgårdsvägen stop.
Hålsjön
Hålsjön and his surroundings make up one of the finest nature areas in Mölndal with a whole range of interesting fauna and flora. Averaging just over a metre in depth, the lake is ideal for birds, including several rare or threatened species. If you are interested in bird watching then this is an excellent place to visit.
Route:
Difficult to reach by public transport. There are paths in the area but no roads. The area can be reached from the north via Pixbo/Mölndalsvägen or directly from the south along Hårskerödsvägen. Some way along Hårskerödsvägen is a barrier after which you are only permitted to walk or cycle. The 602, 603 and 681 buses operate along Pixbo/Mölndalsvägen and you can catch them in both Gothenburg and Mölnlycke. You can catch the 602 or 681 bus at Brunnsparken, the Nils Ericson terminal or the Mölnlycke terminal and the 603 bus at Korsvägen, Brunnsparken or the terminal in Mölnlycke. From the south the area can be reached via Sporredsvägen by taking the 764 bus to Tulebo.
Djursjön
In Djursjön there is excellent fishing both summer and winter. The area around the lake is extremely picturesque with a rich variety of fauna and flora. There is good bathing and the opportunity to find a spot where you can be completely on your own. The Djursjö area is a large, unspoilt area with a definite feeling of being out in the wild. Roe deer and elk are a common sight.
Route:
By car from Hällesåkervägen to Djursjön with a car park at Abborrtjärn. A barrier prevents cars from travelling all the way to Djursjön. From Djursjön there are a number of paths and jogging tracks linking up the lake with the rest of the Lindome outdoor pursuits area.
Safjället
At Safjället you can take a wander through the history of the municipality, which goes back thousands of years. The area is part of the Safjället nature reserve and signs in the area make it easier to find the different remains. You can combine everything that nature has to offer with some good exercise and a beautiful view across Mölndal. The area has three meres: Björåsdammen, Bergskanalen and Änderdammen.
Route:
The area can be reached from the North via Krokslättsvallen or from the south-east via Wallinsgatan, where there is a very steep slope that brings you straight out onto the jogging tracks. There are very good cycle paths from the centre of Mölndal and Gothenburg to Krokslätts fabriker.
Kvarnbyn
Kvarnbyn and Mölndalsfallen are located at the very heart of old Mölndal. In Kvarnbyn the rapids roar down just as they did when they were used to power the grain mills back in the Middle Ages. Now the industrial buildings stand beside the wooden buildings at the cliff edge. In the evenings you can see Mölndalsfallen lit up as they plunge 48 metres between the high, dark factory walls. The falls are particularly spectacular in winter when frost and icicles reinforce the impact.

Cycle or walk from the centre of Mölndal. Note that it can be hilly in places.
Livered
A lush walking area in the heart of Kållered with paths, deciduous forests and fallen trees carpeted with wood anemones in the spring. In places you will find remains of human settlement with stone walls and old foundations. There is also a rich variety of wildlife, including woodpeckers and hawfinches. Winding its way through the area is a path with signs telling you all about the history of the area.
Route:
From Mölndal station take the 765 bus to Västra kyrkvägen. It also stops at Kållered station if you arrive by commuter train.
Isaksmosse
Isaksmosse is a small moss just north of the centre of Lindome. The area is made up of beautiful mixed forest and is worth a visit if you feel like a walk.
Route:
Isaksmosse can be reached on foot or by bike. It is within walking distance of the centre of Lindome and a slightly longer walk from Lindome station if you arrive by commuter train.
Gunnebo culture reserve
Gunnebo, the region's first culture reserve, is a country estate with a house and gardens and surrounded by parks, cultivated land and deciduous forests. The whole of this unique historical setting appeals to all the senses. Fields and meadows also beckon those looking for that ideal picnic spot. For the more adventurous there are potholes between Runde sten, on the road leading up to Gunnebo, and the road leading up to Slottsviken.
Route:
It is possible to cycle or take the bus to Gunnebo House and Gardens. The 753 bus operates between Heden and Helendal and you alight at Kristinedal. It is then a 1 km walk up to Gunnebo.
Fagered
Fagered is regarded as one of the foremost Iron Age locations in the town of Mölndal. The area has wonderful fields, meadows and plants, including a wide variety of orchids. Fageredssjön is a small lake lined with deciduous forest and meadows. The highest point, at the burial ground at Karlabräcka, offers an excellent view of Valåsbergen and Lindome.
Route:
If you are unable to cycle to Fagered you can take the 760 bus from the centre of Mölndal to Flabäck or the 767 bus from Lindome station to Västra Fageredsvägen. There is a car park to the right after you have driven under the E6 highway towards Flabäck. At the car park there is a map of the area as well as brochures.
Femstenarör, Rännareflåg
Some 4 km north-east of Lindome is the mediaeval border between Sweden and Denmark. Beside Kraftledningsgatan there was an old stone monument in the form of a ring, known as Femstenarör or Sjustenarör. The area has in less than 100 years been transformed from heather-covered moorland into an established forest, and a truly enchanted forest at that. In an old forest such as this, with its fallen trees, mushrooms, larvae and mosses, insects and birds thrive. The area is also excellent for mushrooms and berries.
Route:
Making your way to Femstenarör is a minor challenge. You can either walk from Skår or from Hårskeröd in the municipality of Härryda to Femstenarör. The stone formation to be found at the edge of Ledningsgatan and it cannot be missed even if it is not that easy to orientate yourself in an area that is largely devoid of roads. To reach Skår you can take the 763 bus from Lindome station towards Inseros.
Sandsjöbacka
The most well-known area is Sandsjöbacka with its extensive heathland. There is also a drumlin, a geological formation rising up from the landscape like the back of a whale. You can find both mushrooms and berries, including blueberries and cloudberries. There are also permanent windbreaks with brick-built hearths if you want to spend the night in the open after a long day picking mushrooms.
Route:
The reserve can be reached by bike from Mölndal station or the 771 or 751 bus to Frölunda smedja. Change to the 84 bus to Askim svartmosse (Sisjön). From Kållered you can walk along the path at Torrekulla, which can be reached by bike or the 760 bus. There is parking at both Torrekulla and Sisjön. From Lindome the reserve can be reached from Spårhagavägen. There are several paths from Spårhagavägen into the reserve. The 767 bus runs from Lindome station along Spårhagavägen.
Bunketorp
Bunketorp is an area that is wild in character with a large variety of birds and animals. The forest has remained untouched and the tree trunks covered in beard lichen are not unlike Santa Claus's beard. During the winter Bunketorp has prepared ski tracks passing through excellent skiing country. There is also an abundance of blueberries, lingonberries and edible mushrooms.
Route:
To reach Bunketorp you can cycle or take the 762 bus from the centre of Lindome. To reach Lindome you can take the commuter train from Gothenburg or Kungsbacka. There is a car park at the IK Ulven clubhouse.
Änggårdsbergen
The Änggårdsbergen Nature Reserve and Botanical Gardens is an extensive green area. Änggårdsbergen is hilly and has many rare insects and a rich birdlife. There are also several ancient remains dating back to the Bronze Age. The large number of paths, varying in length and height, are ideal for anyone wanting a little exercise.
Route:
The reserve is easy to reach by bike from Sahlgrenska, the Botanical Gardens, Eklanda in Mölndal or from the Högsbo industrial estate (Gruvgatan). There is free parking at both Eklanda and Gruvgatan.
Gunnebo outdoor pursuits area
The Gunnebo outdoor pursuits area offers the opportunity for superb walks or other exercise in beautiful countryside. The natural environment around the house at Gunnebo is well known and armed with binoculars you can discover many rare plants and birds. The two lakes, Rådasjön and Stensjön, offer excellent child-friendly bathing. On the lakes you can embark on an exciting journey of discovery by canoe or on the ice in winter.
Route:
The Gunnebo outdoor pursuits area can be reached by bike across the bridge in Mölndal, along Kvarnbygatan for 0.9 km and then along Pixbovägen for 80 m. Turn right onto Stensjögatan and cycle 0.9 km before turning right onto Rådavägen. Proceed 140 m and then turn right onto Tallkottegatan. After 40 m you come to Strandpromenaden to the left. After approximately 320 m you are there. Alternatively, you can take the 753 bus or the 773 bus from Mölndal station to the Kristinedal stop.
Börsåsgrottorna
Börsåsberget offers a panoramic view and from there you can see the stream meandering through Lindome. If you climb the hill you will find a path leading to the cave, Börsåsgrottan, which was formed during the Ice Age. The area also has oak forests and to the left of Börsåsberget there are beautiful fields and meadows.

To reach Börsåsgrottorna you can either cycle or you can or take the commuter train to the centre of Lindome and then the 763 bus to Hällesåkersskolan. There is a car park at Hällesåkersskolan.
